Those who shared the same Goliath roller coaster ride as the
42-year-old man who fell out and died at Six Flags Over Georgia
says the incident was "bizarre and traumatic."
One parkgoer recounts the harrowing moments when
he saw the victim lodged out of his seat.
I see him come up out, out of the seat and I mean it,
it, physics is crazy, but it looked like he was hovering because the car
was moving underneath him. And then he came back down into
a different car than the one he came out of and he came down head first.
And I watched as he landed back in the car and the car went, you know,
finished going up the hill and then it takes a left turn into a straight away
that goes right back into the car barn where the ride starts and ends.
And as the car went around the bend to the left, is when I saw him come
out of the car and fall.
It did not appear that he bounced around. Um, you know, I could
clearly see him moving, at first, and when he exited the vehicle, I did not,
it did not appear that he was moving by that point,” says Nick Mendenhall.
An amusement ride safety expert said there are myriad
factors that need to "go right each and every time" from a mechanical
perspective for park rides to run smoothly.
A lawyer who had previously sued Six Flags suspects
"operator error or some malfunction" may have occurred
that would allow the bar restraints that pull over the riders'
legs and waist to fail.
There are no seatbelts on the 61-metre ride.
Authorities have yet to release information about how Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem
came out of his seat or any details about those who were injured when
struck by him.
