The Police Force has announced the establishment of the Hong Kong International Academy of Policing next month.

It has also launched the first internally-funded bachelor's degree programme for officers without degrees to apply.

Sixty percent of new police recruits for the 2025 to 2026 year do not hold a bachelor's degree.

To provide further education opportunities, the Hong Kong Police College has launched its first bachelor's degree programme in policing.

Classes will mainly be held at the college.

The programme will be divided into junior and senior entry routes.

The two routes target officers with secondary education, as well as those holding associate degrees or higher diplomas.

There are 80 and 40 places respectively.

CHEUNG HOI-YAN, Head of School of Specialised Learning HKPC says "I think this is attractive because while they are working, they can continue their studies. As I just mentioned, the practicum includes the working in either the uniform branch or the criminal investigation unit, so while they are working in the workplace, they can also study. So this is very attractive to them."

The degree is recognised at level five under the Qualifications Framework.

As the force fully funds the course, officers must serve for at least two years after graduation or repay the tuition fee.

CHEUNG HOI-YAN, Head of School of Specialised Learning HKPC says " We will base on their academic performance and also their workplace performance, to confirm whether they can be admitted to this programme."

The programme will begin accepting applications on November 2, the first group of senior students could graduate by the end of 2029.

Also, the force will establish the Hong Kong International Academy of Policing on November 11.

It will invite global police leaders to strengthen international exchanges.
