Police arrest parents of girl carrying bags of beer in Tuen Mun

An elementary school student was earlier seen carrying two heavy bags containing cans of alcohol in Tuen Mun, with the police having arrested her parents on suspicion of child abuse.

The Social Welfare Department said the couple's three children are currently receiving their health assessments at hospital.

The parents were granted bail on Thursday night, with sources indicating that the mother had to receive treatment at the hospital upon leaving the police station.

The incident began with online footage earlier this week showing an elementary schoolgirl carrying two large bags containing alcohol.

Her school teachers subsequently contacted the police after suspecting child abuse.

Reports say the girl involved in the case was found with a bruise to her right thigh which was not caused by assault.

Her family had no prior record of domestic violence.
