The Independent Commission Against Corruption has charged an 80-year-old man for allegedly attempting to bribe Yau Tsim Mong District Councillor Lee Ka-hin with 10,000 dollars -- in a bid to coerce the councillor to arrange a meeting between him and a church pastor.
80-year-old defendant, surnamed Fong, has been charged with one count of offering benefits to a public official.
At the District Council's "Meet the Public Scheme" in July this year, the Fong allegedly handed a folder containing 10,000 dollars in cash to Lee, demanding the councillor instruct his assistant to contact a pastor and arrange a meeting.
Lee reported the situation to the District Council before the case was taken up to the anti-graft body.
