New York Governor Kathy Hochul announces she appointed the office of
Attorney General Letitia James as the special prosecutor to oversee the
investigation into gang rape allegations at a Cornell University fraternity house,
saying she had lost faith in the local district attorney's ability to handle the case.
Students at the Ivy League school meanwhile, demand accountability from university leaders
at a student government forum Thursday, with some asking for stronger sexual assault prevention efforts
and changes to Greek life, while others urge the campus community not to let
the allegations define the school.
With Attorney General James stepping in, she's expected to give
an update Friday on the status of the case together with Governor Hochul.
Meanwhile at a press conference in Washington, US President
Donald Trump says while he doesn't know what's going on at
the "fine school," he's sure the university will "do what's right."
