Today is Martyrs' Day.

President Xi Jinping and the country's top leadership earlier headed to Tiananmen Square to take part in a ceremony commemorating the heroes who have lost their lives for the nation.

The ceremony honouring China's martyrs was held this morning at Beijing's Tiananmen Square, with distinguished attendees including President Xi Jinping and other top-level officials of the Communist Party of China.

Upon the completion of the national anthem, the crowd held a moment of silence for the fallen heroes.

Accompanied by songs sung by local students, 18 ceremonial guards presented giant wreaths at the Monument to the People's Heroes.

Moments later, President Xi adjusted the commemorative ornaments before circling around the monument with other top officials to pay their respects.

Representatives from other sectors also presented wreaths during the solemn ceremony.

Meanwhile, a Xinhua News Agency report noted this year marks the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the Communist Party of China, as well as the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March.

The state media outlet stressed all members of the party, military, as well as all ethnicities in the nation must showcase the spirit of the founding of the Communist Party and the Long March.

It added the nation must push ahead with its Chinese-style modernisation and strengthen its infrastructural development.
