Five-Year Plan aims to speed up I&T Development

Hong Kong's first Five-Year Plan aims to speed up innovation and technology development. Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong says land at San Tin Technopole will be available by the end of this year at the earliest.

He also adds the cross-border flow of people at the Hetao Innovation Zone will begin late June next year.

The Five-Year Plan states the Northern Metropolis provides 900 hectares of formed land.

400 hectares are for industrial use, and a quarter of this belongs to San Tin Technople, originally set for release after 2030.

Sun says the government introduces market forces to speed up the process, releasing two to three hectares by early next year.

Sun mentioned the Hetao Co-operation Zone cross boarder travel must begin by June 30 next year.

Meanwhile, the Yuen Long Microelectronics Centre aims to upgrade into Hong Kong's first national manufacturing innovation centre next year.

And the Sha Ling data park will begin partial operations ahead of schedule before July 1 next year.
