Gov: no more appeal on Fanling golf course env't assessment report

After the court struck down the government's appeal over the environmental impact assessment report of the Fanling golf course, the government says no further appeal would be filed.

A government spokesperson says the decision was made after comprehensively considering the legal counsel's opinions.

It's noted that the direction of the public housing construction plan on the golf course will be reviewed in due course.

In 2023, the government reclaimed 32 hectares of land at the Fanling Golf Course, with plans to build public housing on 9.5 hectares there.

The Hong Kong Golf Club filed for judicial review that same year, overturning the Environmental Protection Department's decision to approve the environmental assessment report.

The Court of First Instance ruled in favor of the club.

The Environmental Protection Department made an appeal.

Last month, the Court of Appeal upheld rulings against the government, noting the department failed to conduct a public consultation on key supplementary information when approving the report, and did not consider expert arguments from the club.
