Mainland cross-border trips up to 2.4 million daily during holidays

Starting this week, the Chinese mainland enters the golden week period covering Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. Authorities estimate that single-day passenger cross-border clearance could exceed 2.4 million trips at its peak.

The National Immigration Administration predicts an average of 2.25 million cross-border trips per day during the Mid-Autumn holiday, and an average of 2.15 million trips per day during the National Day holiday. The peak travel days are expected to be September 25 and 27, as well as October 1 and 4. 

Authorities noted that multiple major events are being hosted across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Coupled with residents visiting relatives and cross-border travel, passenger flow at land ports connecting Hong Kong and Macao is expected to increase significantly.

Authorities have directed border inspection officers at ports to implement specialized arrangements, strengthen passenger flow monitoring and situational analysis, and issue timely peak warnings to ensure safe, efficient, and smooth customs clearance.
