16-year-old girl in critical condition after influenza A infection

A 16-year-old girl infected with influenza A is suffering from complications of pneumonia and septic shock, and is currently in critical condition.

The girl suffers from chronic illnesses, and has experienced shortness of breath since catching a fever last Saturday.

Upon seeking medical help at Tseung Kwan O Hospital's A&E Department, she was transferred to United Christian Hospital for further treatment.

She did not travel outside of Hong Kong during the incubation period and her family has yet to show signs of being infected.

The Centre for Health Protection urged schools and parents to strengthen cooperation to support the vaccination programme for the seasonal flu.
