250 died in Colombia's quake so far

The 7.5-magnitude quake that rattled cities across Colombia's western region on Monday morning has so far claimed over 250 lives -- and left more than 2,500 others injured with nearly 4,000 missing.

China says it will provide humanitarian aid to Colombia.

Colombian rescuers and volunteers worked against the clock to free survivors trapped in buildings and under rubble after the earthquake struck the South American country's western region.

The country's third biggest city of Cali was among the hardest hit with firefighters dispatched from capital Bogota to undertake rescue operations.

A 35-year-old man was extricated from the rubble after being trapped for some 20 hours.

In a bid to enhance nighttime security, Cali Mayor Alejandro Eder announced via social media that a curfew would be imposed again from 21:00 Tuesday to 06:00 Wednesday to protect rescue workers, volunteers, and those still trapped beneath the debris. He also confirmed that the military will continue to be deployed in the hardest-hit areas to maintain order and safeguard residents' homes, businesses, and lives.
