Typhoon Dolphin ushers in sweltering heat to HK

The subsiding air associated with Tropical Cyclone Dolphin continues to bring extremely hot weather to Hong Kong.

The Observatory recorded the highest temperature this year.

Hong Kong is observing high temperatures due to the Severe Typhoon Dolphin.

The temperatures exceeded 35 degrees in some areas.

The maximum temperature recorded at the Observatory was 34.7 degrees, the highest so far this year.

JAMES: "It's very hot. It's probably the hottest day I've come out running. I think it's 34 degrees today, something like that. So quite tough."

It has been challenging for joggers to keep their usual practice.

However, travellers have been enjoying the warmth, while taking some preparatory measures to avoid heat stroke.

CHANGING DEFRANCESCO: "It's very hot. But I like the hot, you know, because we are from New Jersey. And it's very cold in New Jersey so it's nice to have some warmth."

JASON LEE DEFRANCESCO: "I prefer the warm air because I have asthma and as a child I run outside, and when it is cold out, I couldn't breathe very well.

So here, I'll be more than happy to run couple of miles. Just like everybody else around here, usually I'll have an umbrella. If I go swimming, I wear sun shirt. I

try to do what I can do because my grandmother had skin cancer, so I try to avoid that."

Temperatures in Sheung Shui and Yuen Long reached 37 degrees.

People living in subdivided units have been suffering from the heat, but still couldn't dare to open the windows in fear of insects and ants. Ms. Lau says she

would cap air conditioning to one hour a day to save electricity bills, using small fans and multiple cold showers instead to save money.

High temperature weather is expected to continue to midweek next week. Members of the public please pay attention to health conditions. Drink more water and take all necessary protective measures against the heat.
