Part of a discarded part of a SpaceX rocket is expected to have crashed into the moon

but the impact poses no danger to Earth though it can impact

future space travel.

NASA is using ground-based telescopes and space-based assets to track

the used Falcon 9 upper stage from a commercial mission launched in

January last year.

The roughly 3,900-kilogram part is expected to have made impact on

the Moon near the Einstein and Bell craters.

NASA scientists are planning to collect lunar data from the event

and refine techniques for tracking objects in space.

The impact was not visible to the naked eye on Earth,

but NASA says it had attempted to observe it in real time.

Experts raise concerns over the more 3,000 pieces of

space debris on the Moon, suggesting it may make future landings

more challenging.
