T8 issued at 7:10 am; 9 injured & at least 27 fallen trees amid Noul

The No.8 Gale or Storm signal has replaced the No. 9 signal at 7.10 a.m.

At 7 a.m., Typhoon Noul was centred about 80 kilometres northeast of Hong Kong Observatory and is forecast to move northwest or north-northwest at about 15 kilometres per hour crossing inland Guangdong.

Locally, gales are affecting many places with occasional storm force winds offshore and over high ground. Heavy squally showers associated with Noul are affecting Hong Kong.

In the past couple of hours, over 40 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over eastern part of the New Territories.

As of 4 a.m., the city reported 27 cases of fallen trees.

As of 9 a.m., 9 people were injured during the storm.

Flood-prone Heng Fa Chuen remains swept by strong winds in the morning with water drenching the harbourfront promenade.

Crashing waves pummelled the waterfront area in Tsim Sha Tsui as well.

Some citizens ventured out, despite the danger and reminders from the Observatory.

Over in Mong Kok, the visibility is low, but some commuters could be seen too out in the otherwise deserted streets.

MTR says all train services operating on open sections of its rail lines will remain suspended on Sunday morning but trains will keep running during normal operating hours in tunneled sections at reduced intervals.

Mainland rail authorities announced because of the adverse conditions all high-speed rail running between Hong Kong and the mainland before 4 pm will be suspended.
