The US Federal Communications Commission says it had tentatively decided to ban imports of foreign-made military-grade drones, including swarming drones and drones with infrared technology.
The FCC in December barred the import of all new models of foreign drones, but then issued a series of exemptions for some drones and components that were not produced from China.
Under the decision, DJI, Autel and other Chinese drone companies cannot sell new drone models or key components in the US.
The FCC said on Tuesday it would extend the exemptions until January 2028.
It said swarm-enabled drones can pose significant risks to public safety and national security.
The order, if finalised after a 30-day public comment period, would not affect the continued use or operation of already purchased drones.
