Court sentences 'Mr Ho' to 2 months' jail for stabbing wife

Representing himself without legal counsel, "Mr Ho" -- Ho Huen -- had previously pleaded guilty to wounding with intent. Following his guilty plea and remand, the case was adjourned due to his continuous hospital admissions.

When the District Court convened today for sentencing, the judge notes another notification was sent from the Hospital Authority stating that Mr Ho was once again unable to attend court.

Considering that further delays would be unfair to the defendant, the judge decided to handle the matter as a special exception and proceeded to sentence Mr Ho in abstentia without legal representation, handing down a two-month prison sentence.

The judge said the case stemmed from love turning to hatred, remarking that the defendant failed to exercise self-control and harmed his wife. The sentence considered the severity of the offense alongside the defendant's advanced age.

The internet-famous couple, 77-year-old Ho Huen and 44-year-old Ye Xiuding, were arrested in May following a violent altercation in Tuen Mun. Mrs Ho was reportedly stabbed in the head with a pocket knife, resulting in injuries to both parties.
