Since the blanket ban on smoking at the city's construction sites came into effect last Friday, the Labour Department says it conducted patrol at more than 200 construction sites.
Authorities have so far issued nine fixed penalty notices, four notices to contractors urging improvement in relevant areas and 100 verbal or written warnings.
Commissioner for Labour Sam Hui says his department continues to notice large amounts of cigarette butts on construction grounds, adding contractors should strengthen efforts to control workers' behaviour at the workplace.
He reiterates that the Labour Department will issue warnings if the anti-smoking measure was not implemented to a satisfactory level by construction site managers, while a notice for improvement will be issued if on-site arrangements need to be enhanced.
