Police arrest 125 people after smashing an unlicensed food factory syndicate and four illegal gambling establishments. The suspects include the syndicate's head and core members. It is estimated that the group's annual profit from the operation making lunchboxes for construction sites reaches 12 million dollars.
To gather intelligence, the police disguised as catering suppliers in Sau Mau Ping. Officers were threatened by syndicate members and blackmailed authorities for 70,000 dollars.
After investigation, the police found that the syndicate controlled
six residential catering business in Sai Kung and Sau Mau Ping. The group would expel other suppliers through blackmailing, arson and criminal damage.
Meanwhile, the police also discovered the syndicate had been operating illicit gambling sites in West Kowloon.
