Today is the 29th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Chief Executive John Lee, in his speech at the celebratory reception, said the current government has resolved long-standing problems in Hong Kong over the past four years. He emphasized the need for a longer-term vision of reform and innovation, the formulation of a five-year plan for Hong Kong, and the full-speed development of the Northern Metropolis.

The reception celebrating the 29th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wanchai.

In his speech, John Lee said in the four years since taking office, he has resolved long-standing problems in Hong Kong, established a safe and stable Hong Kong, and deepened governance system reforms, with results gradually emerging. He pledged to continue his efforts in three key areas in the future.

Lee said: “First, accelerate the formulation of Hong Kong's Five-Year Plan. The Hong Kong Five-Year Plan is a crucial step in ensuring economic and social development and serves as a vehicle for the people-centered governance philosophy.

The Policy Address will echo the direction and requirements of the plan, setting numerous specific indicators, reporting progress, and introducing policies and measures according to the actual situation each year.

Second, accelerate the development of the Northern Metropolitan, making it a breakthrough point for Hong Kong's development. Third, further improve people's livelihoods."

He also mentioned that this day was the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, describing the country's prosperity as Hong Kong's strongest backing.
