US President Donald Trump said American negotiators are on their way to Doha, Qatar for a meeting with their Iranian counterparts.

DONALD TRUMP: "You know, oil prices are way down. We had $69 today. It was higher than that prior to the denuclearization of Iran fight that we have, which we're doing very well. There will be a meeting on that tomorrow in Doha and, they're going to Qatar. I think they've already left, or they're just about getting ready to leave. So we'll see how that goes. But we're doing very well on that front. But the meeting in Doha is going to be perhaps important, perhaps not. We're going to find out, but we're winning militarily. It's almost won militarily, I would say, and it's really very simple. It's the denuclearisation of Iran. We don't want them to have a nuclear weapon, and they're not going to have a nuclear weapon. And they've agreed to that in all fairness."

Trump is sending his son-in-law Jared Kushner and his envoy Steve Witkoff to lead the negotiating team, according to his press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

While Iran is sending its technical delegation to Qatar this week, the country's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said this had "no relation" to the Americans' visit and no talks between the two sides were scheduled.

The US and Iran gave themselves at least 60 days to implement the 14-point memorandum of understanding to extend an April ceasefire, discuss Iran's nuclear program and negotiate a permanent truce.
