Police arrests three people on suspicion of drug trafficking after seizing 214 kilograms of alleged cocaine from a fishing boat in Aberdeen. The market value of the suspected drug is estimated to be 180 million dollars.
Police seized 241 kilograms of suspected block cocaine during an operation on Friday, also the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Two men and one woman, aged between 46 and 51, were arrested.
The police say the suspects are from a syndicate that specialises in using boats to smuggle drugs. The group would use boats at Typhoon Shelters to store drugs.
With the assistance of intelligence analysis and CCTV footage, the force raided two boats at Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter.
Authorities found the alleged cocaine blocks on one boat and caught two core members of the syndicate on another one. The members are said to have lived on the boat to act as lookout.
The police also searched the unit of the syndicate's head in Aberdeen and seized jewellery, cash and designer bags worth more than two million dollars.
Authorities say the trio will be charged with a count of conspiring to traffic dangerous drug and trafficking dangerous drug. The case will be heard at Eastern Magistrates' Courts on Monday.
