Around 10 people in Japan are reported to have

sustained minor injuries from a strong earthquake

that jolted Yamanashi Prefecture, home to Mt. Fuji,

and surrounding prefectures, including the Tokyo metropolitan area.

It occurred on Friday night at a depth of about 20 kilometres.

Footage shows crumbled walls and collapsed buildings

following the 5.6-magnitude quake registering lower 6

on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7.

There was no threats of tsunami.

Weather experts suggest the tremor is unlikely related to Mt. Fuji

and would not cause it to erupt, as no abnormalities

had been detected in the mountain's volcanic activity.

The quake has left a number of elderly women

in adjacent Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefectures injured from falling

while authorities are receiving reports of landslides in Kanagawa.

On Friday afternoon, a more intense, 5.8-magnitude earthquake

has also been recorded in Chiba Prefecture and Tokyo,

where shaking was strongly felt.
