Baby Danny, the 2-year-old infant whose parents gave birth at home and at one point refused to provide DNA samples, was admitted to hospital with fever Sunday night.
His parents, Mr. Tsang and Ms. Kwan, went to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital to check on the situation. A court order has placed their two-month-old son Danny under the care of a residential home. Mr. Tsang said he received a call from the residential home late Sunday night, notifying him that Danny had developed an emergency situation and was being sent to Eastern Hospital. He quoted doctors as saying that his son had a fever and cough, and that a series of diagnostic tests were recommended. If his condition persisted or worsened, a "spinal tap" (lumbar puncture) would be required to extract cerebrospinal fluid for diagnosis of diseases such as meningitis.
The hospital later allowed one parent to stay in the ward with Danny. Ms. Kwan said this morning that after breastfeeding, Danny's condition had improved significantly and his fever was subsiding.
Mr. Tsang said that due to the improvement, doctors indicated that no further diagnostic tests were needed, and the spinal tap procedure would not be required.
