China footage of a scientific survey at Huangyan Island

China has released footage of a scientific survey at Huangyan Island in the South China Sea, rejecting the Philippines' claims over a the role of a floating platform.

The Philippine Coast Guard had voiced concern after spotting the platform near the lagoon.

Beijing says the facility was used for core sampling and environmental monitoring, and that researchers discovered a large population of protected green sea turtles.

The platform has since been removed and equipment recovered onto a survey ship.

Spokesman Lin Jian stresses that Huangyan Island is China's inherent territory and all activities there, including scientific research, are a sovereign right that other countries have no right to interfere with. He urges the Philippines to stop making false accusations.
