The Government Flying Service, together with the police and other departments, conducted a counter-terrorism drill today in Kai Tak.
The cross-departmental efforts aim to strengthen aerial assault and support operations. The exercise was held in Kai Tak with simulation of a water taxi being hijacked by terrorists. A Government Flying Service helicopter was dispatched to locate the injured who was airlifted to safety for treatment.
On the shore, the police tactical unit -- Special Duties Unit, or SDU officers -- swooped in to pursue the remaining terrorists and exchanged fire before subduing them.
After undertaking emergency treatment on those wounded, Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Division personnel were sent to work on suspected explosives inside a vehicle, emitting smoke.
The Fire Services Department sent its hazardous materials team to handle any potential dangerous substance leaks.
Organised by the Government Flying Service, the exercise was part of the International Symposium on Emergency Response and Aeromedical Services.
The simulation aimed to strengthen cross-departmental cooperation and anti-terrorism efforts.
