Customs department seizes 1,000-litre of suspected untaxed fuel

The Customs and Excise Department has seized 1,000 litres of suspected illicit fuel from a car wash centre in Kwun Tong. The market value of the seized fuel is about 33,000 dollars and a duty of 6,000.

No one has been arrested.

Customs authorities and police raided the car wash centre on Wednesday evening. The department says authorities have enhanced inspection in Kowloon East after receiving complaints about suspected illegal fuel activities in the district.

Initial investigation shows that the car wash site is a disguise for the syndicate who runs the illegal fuel station. To filter the pungent oil smell, authorities say several air purifiers and fans are found on site.
