Wang Yi meets with Marco Rubio on Munich Security Conference sidelines

Foreign Minister Wang Yi is in Germany for the Munich Security Conference.

On the sidelines of the conference,he met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Wang said Beijing and Washington should strengthen cooperation in various fields,in order to promote the stable development of China-US relations.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi travelled from Hungary to Germany to attend the Munich Security Conference.

Wang held a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubiothat lasted about an hour.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Wang Yi conveyed to Rubio that President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump set strategic guidelines for the development of China-U.S. relations.

Both sides concluded that the meeting was positive and constructive, agreeing to work together to implement the consensus reached by the two leaders.

By expanding the list of cooperation, Wang believes the two countries can maintain a stable, healthy and sustainable relationship.

This marks the second in-person meeting between the two senior diplomats since Trump began his second term, following their last encounter in Malaysia last July.

Wang also had a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

Despite a shifting geopolitical landscape, Wang reaffirmed China's commitment to its friendship with Ukraine.

He added China is willing to offer a new round of humanitarian aid for Ukraine and called on Kyiv to continue to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel in the country.

He noted intensive diplomatic efforts surrounding the Ukraine crisis have been encouraging.

China's position, he said, has remained consistent -- upholds objectivity and fairness and actively promotes peace talks.

Wang also met with foreign ministers of the UK, France, Austria and Serbia.
