U.S. President Donald Trump signalled that he will pay a visit to China this April and that President Xi Jinping will travel to the United States toward the end of 2026.

But when asked to confirm Trump's claims, a foreign ministry spokesman in Beijing said he has "no information to provide at the moment."

Donald Trump departed the Zurich International Airport to mark the conclusion of his World Economic Forum visit in Davos.

Speaking aboard Air Force One, the US president revealed a plan to visit China later this year and said the relationship between the world's two largest economies is now "excellent" though it was strained during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said, "I'm going in April, he will come at the end of the year. I look forward to seeing President Xi, I've always had a great relationship (with) President Xi of China.

Trump added China was purchasing large quantities of US soybeans, which was good for US farmers.

Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested in an interview with Politico that Trump and Xi could meet up to four times this year, adding their bilateral relationship had reached a "very good equilibrium."

Bessent said the leaders are "setting the tone for the overall relationship" and that they can jump on phone calls to quickly de-escalate possible glitches.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said today that the "head-of-state diplomacy" plays an irreplaceable leading role in their ties. But added there is "no information to provide at the moment."

He also said the steady development of Sino-US relations serves the common interests of the two peoples and meets the shared expectations of the international community.
