The first youth hostel converted from a hotel will only be able to operate until the end of next month because its lease will not be extended.
The youth hostel, located on Morrison Hill Road in Causeway Bay, was launched in early 2023, providing 194 beds.
The Hong Kong United Youth Association, which is responsible for its operation, said the landlord notified them that the lease would not be renewed after it expires on February 28th this year.
They have informed the current residents that their February rent will be waived, and they have already assisted nearly half of the current residents in applying for other youth hostels.
In response to inquiries, the Home Affairs and Youth Affairs Bureau said the operator had discussed renewal with the landlord last year, but recently received notification that the lease would not be extended.
They are currently assisting the current residents in applying for other youth hostels according to the lease terms and the individual needs and wishes of the current residents. Operators of other youth hostels will expedite their processing.
