Starting on Monday, residents who wish to apply for test-free driving licenses in Hong Kong should get a same-day queue ticket on the Transport Department's website, and head to the licensing office based on their designated time slot.
A total of 300 daily slots were snapped up within half an hour on the first day of operation.
In a bid to tackle long queues and scalping at the offices, the government introduced the online ticketing system under which applicants can join the online queue from 7 a.m. every day.
An individual who successfully obtains a quota will receive a SMS notification specifying a designated time slot.
Assistant commissioner of the Transport Department Amy Lee said the operation ran smoothly on the first day.
